Description: The Department of Animal Sciences in the College of Food, Agriculture, and Environmental Sciences at The Ohio State University seeks to employ a 9-month, tenure-track faculty member at the Assistant Professor rank in Poultry Nutrition to begin in the Spring 2023 semester or when a suitable candidate is found. All application materials must be received before an application will be considered. The anticipated distribution of effort for the position is 75% Research and 25% Teaching.
Expectations: The successful candidate is expected to have expertise in poultry production, with a focus on poultry nutrition. Expertise and future research priorities should advance scientific knowledge in areas important to the poultry industry, including but not limited to: the interactions between nutrition and animal well-being/health-management, optimization of nutrient utilization to minimize environmental impacts of production systems, genotype-diet interactions and production efficiency, prediction and determination of nutrition requirements, and preventative nutritional interventions to optimize the resilience and sustainability in poultry production. The successful applicant is expected to develop a nationally and internationally recognized research program that is independently supported with extramural funding. The successful applicant is also expected to collaborate with current faculty in the Department in common thematic areas. Teaching expectations include teaching nutritional courses in the areas of poultry and/or monogastric nutrition at undergraduate and graduate levels, developing new courses as needed, and training and mentoring undergraduate and graduate students in research. Although there are no formal extension responsibilities, the individual is expected to collaborate with other faculty engaging in outreach education.
Preferred Qualifications: Requirements include a doctorate degree in Poultry Science, Animal Sciences, Nutrition, or a closely related field. Demonstrated evidence of individual and/or collaborative research and teaching efforts is expected. A working understanding of poultry management is expected, and productive interaction with partners in allied poultry industries is preferred. Applicants must possess strong interpersonal and communication skills, in addition to the ability and desire to work with diverse groups of individuals (including underrepresented groups) in a collegial team environment.
Location: This position is located on the CFAES Wooster Campus (https://wooster.osu.edu/home). Sixteen of the Department’s 40 faculty are stationed on the Wooster Campus. The Department has the Poultry Research Center (36,000 square feet for both chicken and turkey) and the Chicken Farm on the Wooster campus, and both are well equipped for different research projects (https://ansci.osu.edu/about-us/facilities/animal-units/poultry-research-center). The Wooster Campus also has the Feed Mill to formulate different feeds as needed.
