The Poultry Science Department Head at Mississippi State University will provide leadership for efficient planning and implementation of teaching, research, extension, and service programs to meet the needs of students, poultry stakeholders and clientele across the state, region, nation, and globe.
The Head of the Department is responsible to the Dean, College of Agriculture and Life Sciences, the Director, Mississippi Agricultural and Forestry Experiment Station, and the Director, MSU Extension Service. The Head will have a full time administrative appointment and will provide overall leadership, direction, and administration for undergraduate and graduate teaching, research, extension and service activities. The Head is responsible for coordination of budget and personnel management functions and is expected to establish and maintain working relationships with Research and Extension Centers and other units of the University, the poultry industry, federal and state government agencies, professional societies, and alumni. The Head will also serve as a liaison between the Department of Poultry Science, and industry partners such as the Mississippi Poultry Association, Mississippi Farm Bureau Federation, and other allied industry stakeholder groups.

Candidates must have an earned Ph.D. from an accredited University in poultry science or a closely related field. The candidate must meet eligibility requirements for appointment to a tenure track or tenured position at the full professor level and graduate faculty membership at Mississippi State University.
Candidates should have demonstrated work experience in planning, developing, coordinating, and evaluating undergraduate and graduate teaching, research, extension, and service programs; administration of resources; grantsmanship; directing personnel; diversity recruitment; promoting staff and faculty personal and professional development; and interpersonal communication skills needed to coordinate interdisciplinary programs with other departments, federal and state agencies, land-grant universities, the poultry industry, and professional organizations; stimulation of funding opportunities.
