DEPARTMENT OF ANIMAL AND AVIAN SCIENCES COLLEGE OF AGRICULTURE AND NATURAL RESOURCES UNIVERSITY OF MARYLAND, COLLEGE PARK POSITION ANNOUNCEMENT POSITION: Post-Doctoral Associate, Faculty/Staff, Non-Tenured, continuing contractual Position # 126951
POSITION SUMMARY/PURPOSE OF POSITION: A post-doctoral associate position is available in the field of animal/ poultry science, liver physiology and nutrition. Projects will involve investigating mechanisms regulating liver mitochondrial function during various nutritional and physiological states and during the pathophysiology of liver disease. Our laboratory uses techniques including stable isotope based profiling of metabolism using techniques in mass spectrometry, in combination with measures in molecular biology to understand cellular mechanisms regulating liver function. Research will include the use of in vitro and in vivo models of liver metabolism, derived from diet-induced insulin resistant mice and/or embryonic and neonatal chicken. Opportunities and training in experimental design, data analysis and processing, mentoring and laboratory management, grant writing and manuscript preparation are available through this position. Contact Nishanth E. Sunny, Ph.D., at firstname.lastname@example.org for more information about this position.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: We seek an outstanding scientist with a Ph.D., obtained no earlier than 2018, in the broad areas of animal or poultry science, nutrition, physiology and metabolism. Only applicants who are currently legally able to work in the U.S. will be considered for this position.
PREFERENCES: Preference will be given to candidates with previous experience in investigating cellular mechanisms utilizing whole animal (e.g. mice, chicken) models and/or in vitro cell culture systems. Experience in investigating the metabolism of the liver under normal physiology or insulin resistance is desirable. Training in mass spectrometry based techniques is also desirable. Knowledge of a variety of routine molecular techniques to investigate cellular metabolism is highly desirable. Candidates with strong interdisciplinary training in the areas of animal/ poultry science, physiology, nutrition and metabolism are encouraged to apply.
COMPENSATION: Salary is highly competitive and commensurate with qualifications. Fringe benefits are offered.
APPLICATION: Applicants must apply through eTerp at https://ejobs.umd.edu/. Candidates should upload CV and cover letter with a brief description of previous research experience and contact information of three professional references.
