The Poultry Science Association (PSA) is currently seeking to hire a full-time Communications Specialist who will pro-actively develop, implement and manage the global communication efforts of the Association in pursuit of its strategic goals and objectives. Less than full-time employment will be considered, depending upon experience and qualifications.
PSA is a non-profit, professional organization of scientists engaged in academic, corporate, and technical support of the poultry industry with a vision to be the world’s most respected resource for poultry sciences. The position is based at the PSA office in Champaign, IL, though alternative working locations will be considered, based upon experience and qualifications.
Among other responsibilities, the Communications Specialist is responsible for developing and implementing communication strategies, subject to Board approval, that will facilitate and support achievement of PSA goals and objectives.
This position reports to the Executive Director of PSA and shall work together with other PSA staff, volunteers of the Association, Board of Directors and outside vendors to achieve the objectives and responsibilities outlined for this position.
Primary Responsibilities: The Communications Specialist of PSA shall be responsible for the following:
Planning – Develops and implements an effective communications plan that will enhance the scientific credibility of the Association and its members, worldwide, in support of the vision to be the world’s most respected resource for poultry sciences
Content – Produces and/or coordinates the production of communication content that is effective and appropriate for a global, professional scientific society
Website – Manages website organization and content, in keeping with strategic objective to be a global resource of information for members and other users
Social media – Develops and maintains an effective social media program to promote member awareness of key messages, as identified by the leadership of PSA
Messaging – Insures that all communications from within PSA are consistent in their messaging of key initiatives, as well as accurately and professionally communicated.
Collaboration – Works effectively with other team members, volunteers and vendors to implement the communications strategies
Advisor – Serves as the primary internal advisor on effective communication practices; works with the Executive Director to inform the PSA Board of communication support needs and funding
A minimum of a bachelor’s degree is required (though a master’s degree or higher is preferred), with strong writing, communication and social media skills. The ideal candidate will have a proven track record in effective implementation of a strategic communications plan.
The ideal candidate will have:
Minimum of BS required; MS degree or higher is preferred
Exceptionally strong communication skills; marketing skills a plus
An appreciation for agricultural sciences; specifically, poultry
An appreciation for animal research and scientific publication
5+ years of experience in a dedicated communications role
