The Animal Sciences Department at Université Laval leads Québec in the training of highly qualified professionals in the field of livestock research. Its mission is to maintain close ties with various actors in the agri-food sector in order to meet specific needs in the area of livestock production and to establish an international base of partnerships focused on the development and dissemination of cutting-edge know-how in the field of animal sciences.
The Animal Sciences Department has 15 faculty members working in a variety of scientific fields relating to livestock production. Each year they teach more than 400 agronomy undergraduates and train about 60 graduate students.
Description of the position
In close collaboration with Animal Sciences Department faculty members, the candidate shall be required to:
Teach and develop courses in the field of livestock behaviour and wellbeing at all three levels of study (bachelors, masters and doctoral).
Lead a program of original research in the field of livestock behaviour and wellbeing.
Direct and guide students at all three levels of study.
Assume an equitable share of department participation in work conducted by internal and external committees.
Participate in Université Laval campus life.
This is a tenure-track position. Faculty status (academic rank) and salary shall be established on the basis of the following considerations:
Status (rank) based on experience
Salary according to the current collective bargaining agreement.

The candidate must hold a Ph.D. or equivalent in a field relating to agronomic and biological aspects of farm animal behaviour and wellbeing or in a related field of study. He or she must possess sufficient knowledge and experience to teach courses* to bachelors, masters and doctoral students in the field of livestock behaviour and wellbeing and must have demonstrated aptitude (relevant publications and other achievements) for independently conducting research on the study of livestock management as it relates to animal wellbeing or animal-derived product quality. He or she must display excellent aptitudes for communication (oral and written) and teamwork as well as genuine interest in teaching.
*Courses at Université Laval are taught in French. However, the position is open to Anglophone and Allophone candidates on the understanding that a functional command of French must be achieved by the end of an integration period, the duration of which shall be agreed upon with the selected candidate.
